Join Us at the Gazebo!Democracy in Action. The first Saturday in March was blustery and gray — colder than any of us expected. Despite that, a crowd of about twenty people showed up at the Gazebo to hold signs and flags protesting against a wide range of injustices. Attendance was up from the previous Saturday — a gorgeous day! — when our turnout reached fifteen. Both days, however, passing drivers were responsive: honking horns, waving, giving us thumbs up. It was amazing, and it was important. Our right to peacefully assemble, to protest our government: it's the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and it’s under threat. Simply standing with a sign is an act of patriotism, and sometimes (as we’ve seen in Minneapolis) of incredible bravery. No Wars, No Kings, No Tariffs, No ICE. Maybe you’re against the war in Iran (and our use of force in a host of other places around the world). Maybe it’s the illegal imposition of tariffs, making life even more expensive. Could be voter suppression (the SAVE act perhaps?)
Or is it the sight of masked, cammo’d-up ICE thugs beating and killing protesters and snatching people — including little kids — off our streets for no reason? Whatever you care about, this is a chance to let people know; to exercise your constitutionally-granted right to protest. So bring a sign and come to the gazebo! Your presence makes a difference. It matters. If you don’t have a sign we always have extras, so PLEASE JOIN US. Democracy needs you.
