JOSH RILEY IS OUR GUY!About 40 people attended the Josh Riley fundraiser at the Ruins at Sassafras Museum in New Lebanon on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Attendees braved wind, rain and lightning to get there, and were treated to a rousing speech by CD 19 candidate Riley. Saying we are “at a defining moment” for the country as we approach the 2024 elections, Riley talked about his personal experiences growing up in an environment and an era where a strong work ethic was foundational. He recalled “the rug was pulled out from under” his community after the shoe factories and IBM left the area. Son of a dad who worked as an IBM maintenance worker and a mom who was a law enforcement professional, Riley recounted memories from his boyhood where the family budget was tight, school clothes were bought on layaway, and he delivered newspapers that featured headlines of corporate profits at the same time many of his family and neighbors were losing their jobs. Riley pledged to take no money from corporate PACS. He said he is focused on the working class people who comprise his district, not special interests. Riley said his opponent, Marc Molinaro, has regularly taken money from oil companies, and has voted in their interests. Riley said his campaign is well organized and well supported by small donors. Riley also contrasted himself to Molinaro on issues of keeping women’s health care viable and available, healthcare as a civil right, and maintaining the social safety net provided to seniors through the Medicare and Social Security systems. He said that Molinaro’s voting record will continue as a focus in his campaign going forward. We want to ensure Josh’s election in November. On Sunday, with President Biden’s announcement that he will not remain as a candidate for president, we have new opportunities and potentially new challenges to elect Josh Riley.
