CHATHAM DEMS PICNIC A SUCCESS!!

The Chatham Dems  “NO NONSENSE. JUST CHATHAM” campaign kicked off at a lively picnic last Sunday.  We had beautiful weather, many Chatham residents in attendance, and a roster of speakers.  

Speakers included our Chatham Town Board candidates, Lisa Simonetti and incumbent Rick Werwaiss. They were joined by current Undersheriff and candidate for Columbia County Sheriff, Jackie Salvatore, along with James Fetzer, incumbent and candidate for Highway Superintendent, and Michael Rosen, incumbent and candidate for Town of Chatham Justice.

Guests and candidates engaged informally, and many attendees enjoyed time and reunions with neighbors and friends.

The Chatham Agricultural Partnership and Columbia Land Conservancy present this free tour. It features farms in the Chatham area who open their doors to the public to get a peak into the diverse face of farming in northern Columbia County. Participants will see farm animals including horses, cattle, chickens, and more along with fresh produce, meats, wine, and syrup from farm stands for purchase.

September 18th Town Board Meeting

North Chatham Free Library to request tax funding via ballot initiative

The September 18 Town Board meeting began with a presentation by North Chatham Library representatives Julie Kabat and Board President Kim Grethen, who announced that a ballot initiative to raise funds for the library will be on the November ballot. 

The library successfully obtained voter approval for funds in 2022 in a similar effort, and is now embarking on more frequent initiatives for smaller increases (every two years) in order to keep up with inflation.  If passed, the initiative would raise property taxes approximately $10.00 to $11.00 for every $100,000.00 in assessed value over each of the next two years. 

Kabat noted that the library had spent the previous funding increase to meet the needs of the community: the library increased program offerings, increased hours by 40%, and hired a master’s level librarian as Library Director.
