The Town Board meeting on May 15 included updates from various Citizen Advisory Committees, more discussion on the status of the draft solar law, and public comment on a variety of topics. Highlights are here:
Solar Committee Chair Eaton reported that the Planning Board, the Chatham Agricultural Partnership, and the Community Preservation Fund Advisory Board (CPFAB) have all given feedback on the current solar law proposal.
Some of the outstanding and unresolved concerns about the current proposal include problems with including a “floating zone” or a “solar overlay map” as a locator for solar development. There are also concerns about the difficulty in regulating agrivoltaic solar sites (that allow a combination of agricultural activity and solar development on a solar site); the use of the CPFAB as part of the approval process for solar projects, as this is not part of that Board’s defined purpose; and hidden costs of decommissioning/recycling solar equipment.
