The Chatham Township Democratic Committee has been collecting signatures on a petition in support of televising Township Committee meetings on the free public cable access station to further the public interest in local government affairs.

"I can't believe meetings are not televised yet,” said Abbie Fair, former Mayor and current Democratic Committee chair. “We signed a contract with Patriot Media while I was still on the Township Committee at least 4 years ago. Televising meetings was one of the contract conditions."

As stated in the contract, meetings will be videotaped by students from the Chatham High School media program, thus creating the additional benefit of coordination between school students and local government.

"Televising town meetings will promote better participation in local government by keeping the public informed and aware as issues are discussed, said Terry Hough, Member of the Democratic Committee.

Residents interested in adding their names to the petition can contact either Terry Hough at 973-635-3866 or though4@patmedia.net, or Abbie Fair at 973-377-8299 or abigailfair@aol.com.
